BUSY NEWS DAYS

Yesterday, the 4th of July, our own little firecracker, Charleigh-Anne, turned 9 months old. She is crawling longer and longer distances, yet when she wants to get from one location to another quickly, she still does her "soldier" crawl. LOL

The Discovery shuttle lifted off for the ISS, click here for viewing information and more, loaded with food and supplies and a German astronaut to either join the current crew aboard the ISS or relieve one of the persons that has been on the ISS since early spring. It was the first July 4th take off for the first time in history and the second since the Columbia disaster, which shattered NASA's ego for the second time in some 20 years, along with hearts of Americans across the nation. It used to be that shuttle missions weren't even thought of, that they would just take-off and land . . . it was almost like airplane flights that happen daily, with no catastrophes in sight and you forget, the lives of the people onboard until eventually, the unthinkable does happen. As for the size of the ever-growing ISS, if you are able to, you should take a gander at it sometime . . . it is visible with the naked-eye and quite an amazing sight . . . any opportunity that we have, within normal waking hours. Unfortunately, the weather is quite crappy right now and the chance to see Discovery AND the ISS together, which does not happen very often, is NIL.

North Korea launched some "scud" missiles, one of which was aimed toward Alaska. It "malfunctioned" 35 seconds into the "test" . . . I am not sure what that crack-head leader is trying to prove but if it's his "need" for international attention, he has got it. It is no longer the US vs. North Korea but the "World" vs. North Korea. Japan, Russia and even China have condemned the "tests". Unfortunately, the sanction that we (the UN) would use is to cut food shipments, which in turn is going to starve their people, who have nothing to do with the actions of their leader and is not an "option". At least the UN held an emergency meeting this morning and
drafted a resolution.

Looks like we have another Saddam on our hands but I think some of us have known that for sometime and only now does the entire world see what a true madman given power in a country full of peasants, who've no rights, is capable of doing. Since the "OIL FOR FOOD" program didn't work with Iraq and Saddam, the Saddam who still allowed his people to starve and go without electric and water, lined his pockets, along with the French, who had their hand in the scandal too (maybe why they didn't agree to join the "coalition" forces). I doubt any UN "sanctions" will cool the heels of North Korea's madman leader. The nation that is suffering the most from this is Japan, whom has strained relations with the country and is the closest Western interest in firing range. Their Nekkei index (like our Dow Jones, for those of you without financial savvy) fell almost 3/4 of 1% after the news of the missile launches . . . of course, it had seen a 5% increase in recent days and thanks to all the international turmoil, barrels of oil are selling for a record high of $75.19. Not a price at which I can drive.

Israel and Palestinian relations are quite strained and God-forbid, we may be involved in yet another skirmish if this thing comes to blows over this kidnapped 19 year old soldier, just a week after the beheading of a young male Israeli civilian by the terrorist-led Palestinians.

Ken Lay died quickly of a massive coronary earlier this morning, escaping the penalty levied him. Probably to the cheers of thousands who lost their money, entire retirement savings due in part to his corruption and to the jeers of those who wanted to see his ass behind bars. He got off easy here on earth. His children and his wife get to live out his legacy of corruption and scandal and hopefully, they will also live out that legacy broke. Sorry to wish ill to the relatives of a dead man but it is not rightfully their money on which to live the easy life.

What the hell is up with the state of New Jersey?!?! They are billions of dollars in debt, can't agree on a budget yet they shut down one of their biggest money makers, the casinos, because it is "non-essential"? Since when is any income "non-essential" when you have a multi-billion dollar deficit? If "I" were in debt, I can tell you that any income I have would be essential, rather than having none at all. What the shit?!?! I would consider any tourism income essential.

my son has talked of that movie. i guess i will have to take the time out to watch it, just got done reading some of the dialogue that you left in your blog.

BTW, i stole a copy of your Red-Neck special forces unit pix for my mom to send to her friend while she can still enjoy it; she has Pick's disease, which is similar to Alzhiemers, but worse; but she will get a huge kick out of it. Thanks ahead of time for not suing me . . . LOL
