THEY JUST DON'T GET IT
A kid that is a year behind Joey, but also age 15, was killed in a crash that resulted from a Saturday night/Sunday morning prank. There was a group of youngsters, all under 18, that stole two vehicles, plus a third that belonged to a "family member". (i suppose the other two belonged to neighbors or something) They were playing "cat and mouse" on the interstate when this boy Byron, crashed.Evidently, after the crash, the kids abandoned the other stolen vehicle and left in the third. They didn't stop to check on the condition of the two kids in the crashed vehicle. The other kid is in stable condition; Byron, died at the hospital after "extensive recussitation attempts".
Teens think they are immortal. I, myself, don't understand the whole thing. How they managed to take the keys earlier in the day, without detection and how they thought they were going to get away with the whole thing! I just cannot understand what is going through their heads. I may have done some not so legal things when I was a kid, but, I never even THOUGHT about grand theft auto.
And I KNOW this kid's dad! I haven't seen him yet, but he is ill and I can just imagine how hard this is going to be. He lived next door to his grandparents, so this is going to be hard on them too. I just can't even imagine going to sleep one night and getting that dreaded phone call in the wee hours of the morning saying that your kid is dead.
Anyhow, the funeral is today and I was just thinking about him and his family and what a tragic day today is and wonder how they will make it in the days to follow. You have shock to sustain you at first, but after that, I just don't know how people manage with a loss such as this.
