AS IF I NEEDED SOMETHING ELSE TO COME ACROSS TO PITCH A FIT ABOUT . . . .
Damned if they don't and damned if they do. FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) is under the gun again. Evidently, for not scrutinizing the claims made to Hurricane Katrina "victims". Hell, I consider myself a "victim" of Katrina. My money is being used to support these people, so maybe I will apply for aid.Anyway, FEMA, being the target for not rendering aid fast enough expedited claims and well, some were false. Well, if you ask any insurance company, they can tell you about how much of the claims that they paid were false. It is up to THEM to prove that they are false, therefore, most of the time, due to lack of contridictory evidence, the insurance company will go ahead and pay the claim. (if they refused a claim, then the insured will get a lawyer to perpetuate the fradualant claim, add damages for refusual of said claim and that in turn will cost more money, which is then passed on the other insureds) Just replace "FEMA" instead of insurance company and "insured" in place of victim and "other insureds" with taxpayers and you can see what would have been a mess, with lawyers with their hands out too. (oh, replace the word lawyer with the word lawyer) LMAO
FEMA would have been bashed for not doling out the "payments" fast enough and people would have hired more lawyers than those that are already involved and well, you can see the snowball can't you?? If not, email me and I will show you the snowball. It would have ended up costing more than what we have already spent. And while we are on insurance . . .
as for the people denied insurance claims because they didn't have flood insurance, um sorry. Maybe the people who loaned the money, should have made sure that if they lived in a flood plain (like um, lets say, New Orleans), they had flood insurance. They sure as hell make sure that they have their appraisal, their fees and that you have your standard Homeowner's policy for fire, lightening, hail, wind, etc. although, you live 7ft below the sea?!?! Gimme a break. If you are going to sign a contract, read it. Don't give me the shit about policies being too complicated. Any reputable agent, will interept the coverage for you anyway, specifying what is NOT covered and basically, if it's not excluded (that means, not covered), then it is covered. If you can't comprehend an insurance policy on your own, you probably shouldn't own your own home anyway.
Insurance is a business of risks and if you choose not to insure your property, then you risk having nothing if disaster strikes, except the land beneath your feet, if it is not washed out to sea . . . . and I am not picking on just people in N.O. . . . there are people right here in the MOV (Mid-Ohio Valley) who live along the Ohio and Little Kanawha Rivers who every two or three years get flooded out . . . .and most have insurance (flood) and they just rebuild and wait for the next flood. Hell, if I could get a new home every 4 or 5 years, that's a pretty neat deal. Finally though, our county commissioners have purchased the flood prone area with the help of FEMA, so that we don't keep paying for other people to have wonderful summers on the river and new homes every half-decade. . . . and don't even get me started about Marietta . . . . Parkersburg has a flood wall, although, we lack the amount of downtown business that Marietta does and have much less to protect.
**note*** I do not live in Parkersburg, but 20 miles south in a rural part of the county, up on a hill. I do not worry about floods per se, except that the bridges that cross the creeks to my home on the hill have been washed out, most notebly on June 30, 1998, which also washed out my pond, at the head of the hollow and creek, which was not as bad as the damage at the end of the hollow, with the volume of water exponetionally increasing further down the creek.
